Suzie's Thoughts
So many challenges, not enough time? Getting a work/life balance has never been more challenging to those in hospitality than before.
With a never-ending employee shortage & prices skyrocketing for everything needed to deliver hospitality, a rethink is needed to keep both you and your business afloat.
Be enterprising with the new opportunities placed in front of us, think outside the boundaries of what your business currently does, what could you still do? Be open to opportunities.
Could you collaborate with local businesses, schools or nurseries etc. for purchasing in bulk for supplies. Could you be their caterer on a daily, weekly, special occasion basis to develop new revenue streams whilst also reducing costs?
Consider opening later &/or closing earlier as evidence suggests customers are preferring to eat earlier post pandemic than previously. Consider not operating seven days a week. Reducing your opening days could have many benefits, staff knowing their set days off becomes very attractive when recruiting & retaining employees. This could also reduce your total head count requirement, a reduction in operating costs, and helping you achieve that work/life balance so important to your health.
